Rwanda First Lady, Mrs. Jeanette Kagame has called for more involvement of women in the economic transformation of developing countries.
Speaking at a one day seminar on gender and entrepreneurship development sponsored by International Finance Corporation, Mrs. Kagame said that empowering women financially will boost growth in developing countries.
IFC Senior Manager for Eastern Africa, Jean Philippe Prosper said, "One of the IFC objectives is to narrow the gap between male and female business entrepreneurs in Rwanda. We need to treat them equally."
IFC will assist Rwandan women entrepreneurs to access financial services, training to improve their skills and help them access leases.
Dr. Victoria Kisyombe, Founder of SELFINA, a micro leasing company in Tanzania with more than 30,000 women clients spoke at the workshop, and shared her company's experience in supporting women entrepreneurs through leasing.
