Community Forestry: Feasibility Study
This report summarises findings and recommendations regarding community-based forestry business, with particular reference to one of the logging concession holder and the population of five villages within the concession. Two types of business are discussed in detail: harvesting and processing of logging waste, and rattan harvesting.


Source of Furniture Grade Acacia Timber from Plantations in Indonesia
Furniture buyers throughout the world are increasingly focusing on environmental issues and demanding suppliers use eco-friendly timber such as acacia mangium. An issue for Indonesian manufacturers is where to source acacia from. The report is an initial survey of various sources of furniture-grade acacia logs, the current volume of the trade and its potential over the next five years.



Certification Initiatives Collection
As part of the Sustainable Supply Chain's Market Linkages project, this brochure was prepared for a trade show booth that PENSA hosted in Singapore. The booth promoted responsibly sourced acacia furniture to international furniture buyers and showcased the products of five Indonesian producers. This was the first stage in a strategy of developing the market for acacia furniture and creating business opportunities for SME producers who use it.


Making One Stop Shop (OSS) Work!
This booklet presents the outcome of a research done by the Center for Development Studies, Bogor Agricultural Institute for PENSA on OSS, a single place where the general public can make contact with the government to obtain and submit all necessary businesss paperwork to obtain business licences, permits and approvals. The publication confirms that commitment of local government leaders to empower OSS with multiple authorities and expand its functions and duties are the most critical to improve good performance of OSS. Sustainable Wood Report
This report provides an overview of the forest sector management in Indonesia. Information on the current trading environment, the status of sustainable forest management and the management of responsible business supply chains is included. The report identifies interventions to facilitate demand-led market pull for sustainably- managed timber products.



Cocoa Report
This report provides an overview of the cocoa industry in South Sulawesi, the region’s largest agribusiness sector and the major source of export earnings and local employment. Production and productivity have declined recently despite high prices, due to adverse seasonal conditions. This technical assistance review includes support and monitoring of current initiatives, suggestions to improve productivity and quality in the supply chain, and ways to attract financing for industry development.

The study formulated an appropriate Export Strategy for North America so that Bali-based handicraft SMEs can benefit from current and relevant market information, and follow-up development of additional channels of distribution.

Acacia Furniture: Indonesian Opportunity
IFC-PENSA, through its Sustainable Supply Chain Linkages program, is encouraging Indonesian furniture manufacturers to use acacia timber sourced from sustainably managed plantations. This study examines acacia furniture manufacturing companies in Indonesia and competitor countries such as Malaysia and Vietnam to see if Indonesian companies have an advantage. The study also looks into market opportunities in the United States, Europe and Japan and recommends entry strategies for each.

BDS Market Assessment for Handicraft Report
Exporting offers lucrative opportunities for small businesses to expand their markets. This report examines the role for Business Development Service providers in facilitating exports and finds several issues on the supply and demand side which need attention. The report shows that exporters have few problems on quality assurance issues when filling export orders but face problems in several areas, including fluctuating raw material prices, marketing, access to credit, and other areas which can be addressed by Business Development Service providers.

Voices of the Private Sector
This publication presents the “voices” of 19 diverse business operators from Indonesia. Their thoughts and experiences tell the story of the day-to-day challenges faced by the Indonesian private sector. Insights on how private sector investment has been affected by issues including decentralization, fiscal uncertainties (tax-levies and fees), worsening infrastructure, and growing labor and legal issues are addressed. The goal is to influence Indonesian leaders in taking steps to improve the country’s weak investment climate.

Seaweed Report - This report focuses on the South Sulawesi province because of the particular importance of agribusiness and the high potential for further seaweed sector development in the region. The report contains information on establishing a regional seaweed information system, offers a seaweed demonstration program, tips on micro-finance for small farmers and entrepreneurs, and finance for agribusiness SMEs.





Maize/Poultry Report
Indonesia is a substantial net importer of maize. Imports supply the expanding demand for animal feed, particularly for poultry. This report provides an overview of technical assistance to the maize and poultry sector. Information includes details on support for maize farmer groups and the poultry industry, a database on maize production, a report on the attraction of an integrated poultry investment and a section on SME grain handling infrastructure.
