Aquaculture Gender Specialist


IFC's program in Aceh & Nias is implementing projects to improve the livelihoods of conflict and tsunami impacted small businesses within the Aquaculture (shrimp) sector. IFC’s focus is on linkages to market, environmental and gender issues in addition to improving productivity. IFC seeks to fill the following Short-term Consulting (STC) position within the Aceh & Nias Livelihoods Program:


Aquaculture Gender Specialist

The Aquaculture Gender specialist will work closely with the Livelihoods Program Manager and Shrimp consultant in conducting a study on the role of women in the shrimp sector. Traditionally, shrimp farming is dominated by men, but in fact evidence suggests that household and business finance is significantly influenced by women. Therefore, the hypothesis is; that it may be possible to influence farmer behavior through targeting women.

The candidate must have:
  • Background in role of Women and Gender
  • Understanding of aquaculture / fisheries sector an advantage
  • Extremely well organized, focused, result-oriented
  • A willingness to travel across Aceh
  • The ability to work as part of a team, to tight deadlines as required

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Native Fluency in Indonesian, Excellent English spoken and written
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong people skills
  • Analytical thinking and Result oriented
  • Good at handling multiple projects/tasks
