About Us

The Program for Eastern Indonesia Small and Medium Enterprise Assistance – PENSA – was created in September 2003 with the task of improving lives and livelihoods by expanding the range of opportunities and capabilities for small and medium businesses.

The program concentrates on six key areas where local comparative advantage can be converted into international competitive advantage:

  • Handicraft export promotion
  • Sustainable supply chain linkages
  • Agribusiness linkages
  • Small and medium enterprise linkages to oil, gas and mining companies
  • Access to finance for small and medium enterprises
  • Business enabling environment

IFC-PENSA offices are located in Denpasar-Bali, Surabaya-East Java, Makassar-South Sulawesi, Balikpapan-East Kalimantan and Jakarta, which also houses the Business Enabling Environment and the network office. IFC-PENSA also manages two sister facilities: Private Enterprise Partnership for Philippines (PEP-Philippines) that was launched on July 20, 2005 and the Private Enterprise Partnership for Aceh and Nias (PEP-Aceh & Nias) launched on October 27, 2005.

Private Enterprise Partnership for Philippines
PEP-Philippines, with contributions from other bilateral and multi-lateral donors, has offices in Manila and Davao, Mindanao. The program has a mandate to provide technical assistance to support the development of small and medium enterprises, particularly in Mindanao, initially in three key areas: access to finance, agribusiness linkages and business enabling environment.

Private Enterprise Partnership for Aceh and Nias
PEP-Aceh & Nias, with contributions from other bilateral and multi-lateral donors, has an office in Banda Aceh. The program has a mandate to provide technical assistance to support the development of small and medium enterprises, particularly in the areas that were affected by the tsunami in December 2004. The program will initially focus in three key areas: business enabling environment, access to finance and agribusiness linkages, particularly fisheries.
