Surfing Association of PNG

PEP-Pacific and the Surfing Association of Papua New Guinea (SAPNG) have embarked on a project to strengthen the Association via development of a strategic plan.

During its 20 years of existence, SAPNG and its member clubs have developed a platform for building surf tourism in partnership with local villages in Port Moresby, Vanimo and Kavieng, and gained the support of government and business communities. With surfing recognised as a priority niche tourism sector by the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, the SAPNG has identified the need to strengthen its operation, specifically through creation of a strategic plan that will serve as a roadmap for future activities to underpin sustainable operations of the Association, its member clubs and community and business beneficiaries. PEP-Pacific is funding the development of this plan.

The project commenced with a SAPNG member consultation workshop in Port Moresby on 26th August 2006 and will be completed upon presentation of the final plan at the National Surf Titles in Vanimo in early 2007.
