The growth in the number of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the Pacific region has attracted a wide range of software and hardware suppliers which are either well established companies (often over supplying compared to the MFIs needs) or one off home based providers. Issues that have consistently presented the Pacific MFIs are – poor match or suitability of hardware and software requirements, high initial costs and/or supplier is a small local business without proper finance software experience.
The Melanesian Cooperative Savings & Loan Society requested PEDF’s assistance in evaluating and recommending low cost customer and general ledger MFI software platform options – recommending options for both software applications and in MFI computerization of records (customer/member and finances) plus management reporting.
