IFC Advisory Services in the Middle East and North Africa, together with Swiss SECO, has developed a workshop entitled Sustainable Investing in Private Equity in Emerging Markets. It will be held on November 11-13, 2008, in Cairo, Egypt.
Sustainability is being increasingly recognized as central to the growth of emerging market economies. When integrated into investment decisions and private equity fund management, sustainability has shown to reduce risk and strengthen portfolios.
The workshop is designed to help fund managers in emerging markets use environmental, social, and corporate governance value-drivers in their investment techniques to increase shareholder value and identify new investment opportunities by offering insights and toolkits to help them maximize such sustainable investing.
Through the workshop, participants will learn how to:
• Reduce risk
• Enhance exits
• Develop leadership
• Improve access to capital markets
• Provide new investment opportunities
Topics include:
• Understanding the relevance of sustainability drivers to private equity funds
• Building better business through environmental, social and governance performance
• Effective functioning of the Board of Directors
• Corporate transparency
• Identifying new investment opportunities and accessing new markets
• Developing sustainability management systems integrating environmental and social risk management into the business process
