Vietnam - Strategic Management for Banks

Ho Chi Minh City (1/4/03) and Hanoi (3/4/2003) The Mekong Project Development Facility (MPDF) in cooperation with the Bank Training Center (BTC) are sponsoring a one-day seminar on the topic of “Bank Strategic Management – an Update for Senior Bankers”, each in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The seminars draw an extensive participation from around 70 senior executives of the banking community in Vietnam, including large state-run and joint stock commercial banks as well as investment institutions.

Attending the seminar in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Duc Vinh, General Director of Techcombank explained his interest in the seminar: ”The banking sector in Vietnam is undergoing large-scale reforms with the aim to meet the challenges posed by globalization and integration. The opportunities to learn from skills and experience of the international experts like ones on this occasion are very much appreciated".
The presenter, Mr. Kurt Kendis, Managing Director of the Banking Group, USA, is a world-renown personality in his subject area: global strategic management, multinational risk, executive and board development, and capacity building in emerging markets’ banks. He combines research and modeling to accelerate senior managers’ knowledge management. He has advised boards of directors and trustees of corporations, while continuing his teaching and projects in strategy and risk. In 2002 alone, he presented at 21 seminars around the world.

“I believe the seminar will provide a useful insight into current world banking developments and how they might relate to the banks in Vietnam. We are pleased to organize the seminars for Vietnam, where the banking and financial sector has embarked on a very ambitious road of modernization”, said Mr. Tony Jennings, BTC Senior Training Advisor.

BTC is a training institution for the banking sector staff. It was set up with substantial support for the start-up phase by MPDF and with local joint stock banks joining as share holders. In 2002, BTC has delivered 87 courses in a wide range of subject areas of interest for over 2,300 bank staff.

MPDF is a multi-donor initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Australia, Canada, Finland, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The Facility was set up to support the development of the privately-owned small and medium enterprises (SME) in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
