IFC and the World Bank have ventured inside the online virtual world Second Life with the launch today of their Doing Business 2008 report to the digital community.
Second Life is an online, virtual world created by its users, also known as residents. It offers a platform for communication, business, and education. More than one in five residents logs on to the virtual site from the developing regions of Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
IFC and the World Bank hope to use Second Life to reach business owners, investors, aid donors, and others with the findings of the report. The event was an open forum where policy makers and the public from around the world asked questions, challenged the findings, and contributed to a global business dialogue aimed at stimulating reforms that improve the business environment, and ultimately create more business startups, job opportunities, and economic growth.
