Access to Finance: Highlights Report 2008

Over three billion people in developing countries have little or no access to financial services. IFC is working to increase the availability and affordability of financial services, focusing particularly on lower-income households and micro, small, and medium enterprises.

A new report, Access to Finance 2008, highlights IFC's progress in its "access to finance" advisory services, which are a driving force in establishing local financial institutions. The business line continues to grow, with more than 230 projects worth nearly $310 million at the end of fiscal 2008.

IFC's access to finance program is active in over 90 countries and regions, including some of the world's poorest and conflict-affected areas.
