We can look at greenfield projects, corporate loans, acquisition finance, refinancings, and a variety of contractual structures including: full concessions, BOTs, and public-private partnerships.


Recent Projects


Thames Water Chile - Wastewater Concessionaire in Chile
IFC lent $33 million and syndicated $33 million. The project, which is IFC's first investment in Chile's water and sanitation sector, is to finance the expansion of the sewerage network and the construction and commissioning of wastewater treatment infrastructure. The company provides water and sanitation services to 30 localities in the VII Region of Chile under a 30-year concession contract.


Manila Water - Water/Wastewater Concessionaire in Philippines
IFC has provided two corporate loans of $60 million equivalent combined to Manila Water Company, Inc., the concessionaire for Metro Manila East. IFC has also made $15 million equivalent equity investment in the company. The shareholders are Ayala Corporation, United Utilities, BPI Capital and Mitsubishi Corporation. MWCI will use the funds for improvements in its concession area and payment of concession fees to Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, the conceding authority.

Xinao Gas - Gas Distribution Project in China
IFC invested $10 million equity in and provided a loan of $25 million to Xinao Gas Holdings Limited, a leading Chinese private gas distributor with operations in 39 cities across 10 provinces/municipalities in eastern China. The project will help Xinao develop gas distribution infrastructure and gas utilization in cities in northern and eastern China, where the growth in gas consumption is expected to be the highest.

Triple A - Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste Project in Colombia
The project consists of an IFC partial guarantee of a $70 million equivalent Colombian Peso bond issued by Sociedad de Acueducto, Alcantarillado y Aseo de Barranquilla (Triple A). Triple A is using the proceeds to extend water and sewerage services to the southwest part of Barranquilla, the poorest part of the city.

Land Transportation Office - Privatized Public Service Project in Philippines
The Land Transportation Office Project is a 10 year Build-Own-Operate concession to computerize and interconnect the 247 offices of the Land Transportation Office for a total project cost of $70 million. IFC invested $8 million in quasi-equity, and provided a loan of $12 million to the project company. The project will enhance public service by ensuring faster on-line transaction processing of applications for driver’s licensing and motor vehicle registrations.

Land Registration Systems - Privatized Public Service Project in Philippines
The Land Registration Systems Project is a 10-year Build-Own-Operate concession to computerize and connect the 160 offices of the Land Registration Authority (LRA) for a total project cost of $90 million. IFC invested $2.75 million in quasi-equity, and provided a loan of $22 million to the project company, Land Registration Systems. The project will allow to improve the effectiveness of the land titling and registration system by allowing the LRA to maintain accurate online information on land titles.
