Toll Roads

IFC has committed about $1 billion in investments worldwide in transportation infrastructure projects (ports, airports, and toll roads). Our projects include project financing for greenfield facilities, corporate loans, and refinancing of bridge loans in a variety of contractual structures, including full concessions, BOTs, and others.

Recent Projects

Norvial - Peru
IFC provided a $18 million loan to Norvial S.A., a toll road operator owned by Grana y Montero S.A.A., JJC Contratistas Generales S.A. and Besco S.A. In 2002, the government of Peru awarded Norvial a 25-year concession to operate, rehabilitate and expand a 183-km section (Ancon - Huacho - Pativilca) of the Panamericana North Highway. This is the first toll road concession in Peru. Investments required under the concession include the rehabilitation of portions of the toll road and the construction of two bypasses (Huacho - Primavera and Ambar - Pativilca) in order to reduce transportation costs and improve safety.

AutoBan - Brazil
IFC provided a $35 million loan and syndicated a $31 million loan to finance AutoBan, a Brazilian company that owns a 20-year concession granted by the State of Sao Paulo to rehabilitate, expand and operate the Anhanguera-Bandeirantes highway system, one of Sao Paulo’s principal economic corridors. Investments include the rehabilitation and maintenance of the existing roads, the construction of a 78.5-km extension from Campinas to Limeira, and the upgrade of traffic control, toll collection, and drivers' assistance equipment.
