On December 20, 2005, in Bucharest, the Romanian Government announced Erste Bank of Austria as the winner of the privatization bidding process for Banca Comerciala Romana. Erste Bank will hold a 61.88 percent stake in BCR.
In his remarks following the announcement, Declan Duff, IFC’s Acting Vice President of Operations, congratulated the government of Romania and Erste Bank on the privatization. Duff observed that the high level of investor interest during the privatization shows strong international confidence in Romania's progress.
