Revised IFC-India Video Series 2005




In 2003, an IFC team visited eight IFC projects in New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore to produce the video series consisting of two corporate videos and four project-specific shorts or video news releases (VNRs). The videos, available also on VHS and DVD, have since been updated.

The Video News Releases have aired on CNN FN, and CNN International, CNBC, Reuters, WorldNet, VOA, Middle East Broadcasting Network (at the 2003 Annual Meetings, Dubai); SIC Noticias (Portugal), Univision (U.S.), Doordarshan (India) and Aaj Tak (India). They also received the TELLY Awards 2004 in the 'social issues' category for Hole in the Wall.

The entire series including the Corporate Videos received Finalist awards in the 'public relations' and 'corporate image' categories.

IFC in India: Creating Value
IFC brings added value to its partnerships in India. Companies such as Moser Baser, have entered the global marketplace with IFC's help. Their story and those of Cosmo Films, DQE, Spryance.com, Sundaram Home Finance, and Mahindra & Mahindra Fin. Serv., describes IFC's value beyond merely providing finance: building sustainable businesses, taking care of local communities, helping companies become globally competitive, and imparting best practice.

IFC in India: Creating Economic Opportunity
IFC creates economic opportunity with a comprehensive view of projects that provide financing to farmers for tractors, home mortgages in small towns/villages, microfinance for vegetable vendors/basket weavers, 3-D computer animation for the international film market, Web-based medical outsourcing, consumer packaging materials, and a project that promotes literacy for poor children in urban slums. Moser Baer went from a 'start-up' in 1996 to the point where it now has a third of the global market for CDs and DVDs. IFC's early partnership was key to this success, not only in India but in the global marketplace, according to chairman, Deepak Puri, who credits IFC's advice with helping his company transform itself into a global player.

Hole in the Wall experiments with self-teaching software and weatherproof computer kiosks, which provide poor children in urban slums and villages with an opportunity to use computers and bridge the digital gap.

Spryance.com provides Web-based medical transcription services to doctors and hospitals in the U.S. The company employs a large home-based workforce, which provides economic opportunity to many, mostly women, some of whom would not otherwise be able to work.

DQ-World 'Toons provides animation products and multimedia services to leading film production houses and children's entertainment companies. Its co-productions are currently being broadcast in North America, Western Europe, and Australia.
