The mission of the IFC-World Bank Health in Africa Initiative is to encourage governments to engage the private sector in contributing to sustained improvements in access to quality health-related goods and services in Africa and to promote financial protection against the impoverishing effects of illness.
To fulfill this mission, the specific objectives of the policy component are to:
- Provide information to regulators, policy makers, the private sector, and other stakeholders to permit better informed decision making;
- Work with policy makers to develop a reform agenda and providing technical assistance to governments to support the implementation of reforms;
- Work with governments and stakeholders to improve the operating environment for the private health sector through technical assistance.
The policy cycle involves five stages to ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement:
- Country analysis
- Strategic formulation and development
- Reform
- Implementation
- Monitoring and evaluation
