IFC supports a socially responsible private health care sector to help expand access to health services for people of all income levels, including the poor and underserved populations.
IFC also seeks opportunities to improve standards of quality and efficiency in health care, facilitate the international exchange of best practice, retain health professionals in developing countries, and increase collaboration between the public and private health sectors.
Most developing country governments lack the resources to provide public health care for all their people. To ease the burden on public systems, IFC works closely with governments and the World Bank to design and tailor strategies that fit the health care needs of developing countries.
IFC also believes that the private sector can make an effective contribution to growth and can contribute to employment and local tax revenues when it works with the public sector as part of a broader health strategy.
