Securities
Markets
In developing countries, bond markets play an important role in meeting
a growing need for financing of housing, infrastructure, and other sectors.
Bond markets also provide assets, such as pension funds, for institutional
investors.
IFC helps developing countries build local securities markets in order
to improve access to long-term local currency funding and investment vehicles.
We focus on local bond markets, both to expand risk management tools for
borrowers and investors and to diversify financial sector instruments.
We also continue to support equity markets.
Our work involves projects in countries around the world. For example:
In Thailand, we are building an organized
marketplace for bond trading and a domestic derivatives market.
In Russia, we are advising on the legal
environment for a domestic securitization market.
In the Philippines, we are working on
recommendations for the local equity market. Here we are also helping
create an organized marketplace for bond trading.
In China, we are improving the credit
culture for bonds.
In Nigeria, we are working on proposals
for strengthening the local bond market.
