SEWA is a registered trade association of over 700,000 poor, self-employed women in India, primarily in rural Gujarat. Established in 1972, SEWA's goal is to provide employment and economic independence to its members and to ensure that they have access to important services such as health and child care. While many of SEWA's members used to rely on agriculture for earning a living, local conditions makes this difficult. SEWA has therefore encouraged many to enter the embroidery and handicrafts markets.

Increase commercial viability of women-run enterprises producing hand-woven and embroidered goods.
