GBI's Director invited by Francis Fukuyama to speak at the Spring 2007 Development Roundtable

Addressing a diverse audience of professionals and students from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), GBI Director Harold Rosen discussed the role of social enterprise in private sector development as a means of empowering the poor and disadvantaged, and alleviating poverty. Noting examples from GBI's own portfolio, Digital Divide Data and Kenya Youth Business Trust, Mr. Rosen emphasized the importance of combining both financial and technical skills support and training, which enable socially oriented businesses to become financially sustainable and provide greater long-term impact on the local community. The Q&A session offered an opportunity for the attendees to discuss approaches and issues in development.
