Photovoltaic Market Transformation Initiative (PVMTI)

The IFC/GEF Photovoltaic Market Transformation Initiative (PVMTI) is a strategic intervention to accelerate the penetration of photovoltaic (PV) as a renewable and emission-free source of electric power in developing countries. It is especially for off-grid applications. The PVMTI is a USD$30M program for concessional investments in PV market development projects in India, Kenya, and Morocco. Currently PVMTI supports 10 active investments, with almost USD$20M in funds committed towards investments and another USD$3M anticipated for technical assistance projects. The PVMTI has been operational since 1998, and will close in 2010.
