Global: IFC Leads Development of a Guide to Human Rights Impact Assessment and Management (HRIA)
Human rights have traditionally been the sole responsibility of government, but increasingly businesses are expected to play a key role in upholding human rights and to carry out their operations in a socially responsible manner. However, most companies lack technical skills in the area of human rights impact assessment. In response to this need, IFC and the International Business Leader's Forum (IBLF), in close collaboration with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), developed the Guide to Human Rights Impact Assessment and Management (HRIA).


Global: Partnership for Better Work
IFC in partnership with International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the Better Work Program in August 2006 with the goal of improving labor standards and competitiveness in global supply chains. The program involves the development of both global tools and country-level projects. It offers sustainable solutions that build cooperation between government, employer and worker organizations, and international buyers.


Guatemala: Community uses reforestation project as stepping stone
A forest nursery training program supported by IFC has trained 80 farmers in Guatemala. The local community is applying good growing practices to launch a community-based agribusiness that will soon distribute its products internationally.


Philippines: IFC client leads the way on sustainability reporting in the Philippines
Sustainability reporting guidance and advice from IFC helps Manila Water Company publish the first sustainability report produced by a domestic firm in the Philippines, plowing the way for a successful IPO and numerous awards from business associations in the Philippines.


Vietnam: Bamboo farmers in Vietnam learn sustainable practices
An agricultural training program supported by IFC has helped 500 farmers of Thanh Hoa, one of the poorest provinces in Vietnam, to increase their revenue and enter the supply chain of international companies while using sustainable farming practices.
