How We WorkIFC's work in biodiversity focuses on market transformation for commodities whose production or harvesting bare known consequences to the environment. We look to make changes at system level, chain of custody networks, participate in commodity roundtables, define market based instruments, help to initiate and develop multi-stakeholder efforts. Project ExamplesIndonesia and Philippines: Regional Marine Aquarium Market Transformation project (MAMTI) IFC and the Marine Aquarium Market Transformation project (MAMTI) are assisting the people of Indonesia and the Philippines to reverse the degradation of their marine biodiversity on coral reefs by working with local stakeholders to address factors that contribute to loss of reef biodiversity. Indonesia: Komodo Collaborative Management Initiative (Komodo Project) The IFC-financed Komodo project in Indonesia represents an innovative model whereby the Ministry of Forestry has approved a tourism concession to a joint venture company. Philippines: Asian Conservation Company (ACC) The project is conserving significant coastal and marine biodiversity in several regions of the Philippines through a partnership between ACC and two local non-governmental organizations. Tanzania: Lolkisale Biodiversity Conservation Support Project The project is helping to implement an integrated conservation management plan for a 145,000 acre wildlife conservation area, as well as address and control ecosystem threats. |
