Catherine Cassagne, head of the Biodiversity team, presented IFC's work on building a business case for biodiversity
On Monday, March 27, 2006, Catherine Cassagne addressed the Working Group on "Engagement of Private Sector" and underscored the importance of creative, market-based mechanisms to value biodiversity and best practices for biodiversity conservation. "The challenge for all of us in the business sector, the NGO community, the financial community and international organizations is to find methods to value best practice in biodiversity," she said. "This should include defining acceptable conditions and features for biodiversity offsets to be operational, and ways to promote and facilitate payments for services provided by biodiversity, allowing more people to benefit from these services and from these payments."
