Abstract of Presentation by Alan Duben, Istanbul Bilgi University Istanbul Bilgi University Community Outreach Programs This presentation focuses on the numerous innovative outreach programs undertaken in recent years by Istanbul Bilgi University, a new urban-based private non-profit university with a strong social science orientation. Such programs include various student-initiated community improvement projects developed and implemented in coordination with local authorities and other public actors, university-sponsored adult education courses, community sports programs, music programs, programs focusing on human rights education in local public schools and community-based legal aid, as well as Roma studies and research, among others. |
