Position: Senior Private Sector Development Specialist
Amanda Ellis leads the World Bank’s work on gender issues in private sector development in developing countries through both regulatory environment provided by government and practical initiatives to assist women business owners.
Before joining the World Bank in late 2003, Ellis was Head of Women’s Markets and National Manager of Women in Business for Westpac Banking Corp. in Sydney, Australia. Ellis, who specialized in international trade and development economics, worked for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for 10 years and at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris (1990-1992). She held the position of New Zealand’s consul to the French territories (1992-1995) and managed New Zealand’s aid programs in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia (1996-1997).
Ellis is the author of the best-selling Random House Australia title, “Women’s Business, Women’s Wealth” released in July 2002. Ellis recently released her second book, “Women 2 Women” for Random House New Zealand which is also on the best-seller list.
Ellis was a finalist in the 2002 "Australian Outstanding Woman of the Year - Banking and Finance" awards, coordinated by Swinburne University.
