Overview: Annually, the World Bank Group, the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve and the International Monetary Fund organize a seminar for senior banking authorities from around the world, at the level of Deputy Governor, or Head of Banking Supervision, to discuss current policy challenges for the financial sector.

This year, the theme of the seminar is Financial Market Turbulence and Policy Responses. The subprime crisis that has spread from the US to the main money centers in the industrialized world has implications for many emerging market countries, and for the structure and practice of banking supervision around the world. The estimated losses keep growing, and the response of central banks - as liquidity providers - and of bank supervisory authorities has been extremely interesting. The organizers believe that these issues will be of keen interest to monetary policymakers and bank supervisors from around the world, and in particular from emerging market countries.

Format
Experts will identify the critical questions related to these topics, share recent policy experiences, and stimulate discussion with the audience about implications in different markets. These issues will be of particular interest to monetary policymakers and bank supervisors from around the world, and in particular from emerging market countries.
