Overview: The Financial Systems Unit and the Financial and Private Sector Development Research Group of the World Bank are pleased to announce the Overview of Financial Sector Issues and Analysis workshop, to be held at the Eugene Black Auditorium of the World Bank in Washington, D.C. from Monday, April 28th, to Friday, May 2nd, 2008.
This course will provide an overview of issues of current importance for policy-makers, researchers, and practitioners working in the financial sector. A series of lectures and discussions will cover a broad spectrum of topics related to the financial sector, including:
(1) The role and determinants of financial sector development
(2) Bank risk management models and applications
(3) Bank regulation, supervision, and stress testing
(4) Basel II and its implications for developing countries
(5) The anatomy of past and future financial crises
(6) Development challenges related to payment systems, capital markets, insurance, pensions, private equity, housing finance
(7) Expanding financial outreach, SME finance, and microfinance
| Experts will identify the critical questions related to these topics, explore the analytics of these issues, and share lessons from various countries’ experiences. In a classroom format, participants will engage experts in questions and discussion. |
