Overview: Credit information reporting has gained much momentum in emerging markets over the past few years, as demonstrated by the increasing number of private credit bureaus opened in recent years. Credit bureaus have a significant impact on the development of the credit culture in a country. They are an important element in educating borrowers about the impact their behavior has on their financial future.
The past two years saw several countries adopting innovative approaches to the establishment of credit reporting where public sector played a crucial role through its regulatory powers or by setting up public-private partnerships. This conference will provide an opportunity to learn from experiences in different countries, discuss the future of the public-private cooperation in this area of financial infrastructure, and present technological solutions to address specific challenges in emerging markets.
The conference will gather policy makers, practitioners in the area of credit reporting and regulators from developed and emerging markets to provide a forum for participants to discuss public policy issues and credit reporting best practices, and to share experiences in regulating the credit reporting industry. In addition, the conference will create a forum for credit reporting experts, policymakers and financial education advocates to share their experience and brainstorm on the ways to promote responsible lending practices.
