IFC in the Slovak Republic

Financial Products

The Slovak Republic became a member of IFC in 1993, as a successor to Czechoslovakia. Since then, IFC has invested $65 million in five projects in the manufacturing sector, telecommunications, and banking.

Advisory Services

IFC began its advisory services program in 1994. Since then, IFC has provided donor-funded advisory services to the government and the private sector to improve the investment climate. IFC also has supported the development of mortgage finance, financial derivatives, and small and medium-size enterprise lending. More on advisory projects in the Slovak Republic.

IFC's Changing Role

IFC’s role in the Slovak Republic is changing in light of the country’s accession to the European Union and the growing availability of private financing. IFC will focus on the regions, sectors, and projects where IFC’s developmental role is crucial and for which private financing remains limited, emphasizing socially and environmentally sensitive sectors. More on IFC’s strategy in EU accession countries.
