IFC has completed the following projects:

Smaller Banks Development Project
Garment Sector Study
Feasibility Study for a Restructuring Investment in the Wine Sector
Market and Feasibility Study of a New City Hotel in Chisinau
TA to Support the Modernization and Expansion of a Food Processing Company

Smaller Banks Development Project
2001
With funding from the Government of Netherlands

This program provided capacity building training to two small, private banks, Moldinconbank and Fincombank, in order to transform them into effective intermediaries for channeling credit to the SME sector. The training, provided through a twinning arrangement with an international consultant for one calendar year, focused on helping the banks to identify, appraise, and lend to credit worthy businesses. The program was successful, and as a result the banks received capital investments and credit lines for onlending.

Garment Sector Study
2001
With funding from the Government of Italy

IFC task managers commissioned a study of Moldova’s textile sector to assess the overall potential of the sector and identify enterprises with growth potential and enough commercial viability to attract private investment. The results of the study were used by Moldovan privatization authorities to develop more effective policies.

Feasibility Study for a Restructuring Investment in the Wine Sector
2000
With funding from the Government of Italy

The owner of three small wineries in South Moldova asked IFC for advice on how to successfully invest in the restructuring and renovation of key supply vineyards. IFC responded with a technical, market, financial and strategic assessment of the most sustainable expansion options, and also produced a business plan for the sponsor to use when seeking private financing.

Market and Feasibility Study of a New City Hotel in Chisinau
2000
With funding from the Government of Italy

Due to the very limited quality and capacity of accommodations in Chisinau, a new and internationally branded hotel was necessary to help attract foreign business travelers, help to raise awareness of Moldova, and revitalize the city’s central area. IFC commissioned a study to determine the commercial viability of a hotel project in the City, and its findings were well received by the municipal authorities. While this project did not result in an investment by IFC, it helped to confirm for international hotel chains the potential commercial viability of a small hotel investment in the city of Chisinau.

TA to Support the Modernization and Expansion of a Food Processing Company
1998
With funding from the Governments of Netherlands and the United Kindgom

When Incon, a joint stock company specialized in production and marketing of food and juices, wanted to modernize and expand operations, it turned to IFC for help. IFC oversaw a program to improve corporate management and ownership structure, introduce western management information systems, enhance marketing and accounting capacity and modernize purchasing operations.
