It has come to our attention that an unknown organization and unknown persons are using the name "IFC-Turk" and publishing advertisements in "Yeni Asir," a Turkish newspaper, and possibly elsewhere, in which the unknown organization suggests that it is affiliated with the International Finance Corporation and promises to provide long-term financing for various projects.
IFC understands that persons who have responded to the advertisements by calling the listed telephone number are advised that a substantial sum of money must be paid to the organization before the long-term financing will be provided. IFC further understands that when the persons advise the organization that they do not want to continue with the transaction to obtain the financing, the organization's representatives apparently threaten to take legal action against such persons and in some cases threaten harm.
IFC is not associated in any way with the unknown organization or unknown persons using the name "IFC-Turk." IFC is also not responsible for the newspaper advertisements, and it is not associated in any way with the activities described in the newspaper advertisements. IFC is endeavoring to report this matter to the appropriate authorities.
