IFC in Croatia

Since Croatia became a member in 1993, IFC has committed more than $456 million of its own funds and has arranged over $123 million in syndications. IFC investments in Croatia primarily have been loans in financial markets, general manufacturing, oil, gas and chemical and agribusiness projects. IFC invested in a packaging paper and materials company. IFC partnered with a local bank to provide lower cost mortgage finance. More recently, IFC has made substantial investments in Privredna banka Zagreb and Lidl Croatia; the two projects combined represent close to $150 million in IFC investments.

IFC also invested in regional projects that benefit Croatia, including Euromedic, Poteza and RIB-CSE. The latter represents a $121 million IFC investment in Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG, which will promote lending to small and medium enterprises in Southern Europe.

IFC will continue to focus on developing nonbank financial institutions and in developing the mortgage finance sector, assisting with pre and post-privatization restructuring in key sectors, and seeking investment opportunities in infrastructure and cross-border integration projects. Advisory Services

IFC began advisory work in Croatia in 1996. Since then, the program has included institutional framework surveys for the growth of the factoring industry and support to SMEs in the shipping and general manufacturing sectors. More on advisory projects in Croatia.
