Advisory Projects in Hungary

In 1998, the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS), a joint facility of the World Bank and IFC, advised the Hungarian government on promoting linkages between multinational companies and domestic suppliers.

Earlier, in the beginning of the 1990s, FIAS assessed the foreign investment climate in Hungary, reviewed incentives for foreign investment, and analyzed the role of foreign direct investment in the privatization of state-owned enterprises.

Through IFC's Technical Assistance Trust Fund program, the governments of the Netherlands and Austria financed advisory services initiatives to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support energy efficiency.

In 1999, IFC provided post-privatization assistance to a fiberboard company, helping it to introduce modern production technology, carry out an environmental audit, review legal and tax issues, and complete a financial valuation.
