Advisory Projects in Slovenia

As part of the World Bank Group's assistance strategy in Slovenia, the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS), a joint facility of the World Bank and IFC, examined whether the institutional, legal, and regulatory frameworks were adequate for attracting private investment in infrastructure. FIAS' report found that the Slovenia had substantial investment needs in several sectors, such as electricity, telecommunications, transportation, and waste management, which could not be met with traditional sources of public funding.

FIAS also advised the government on promoting the private sector's active involvement in financing infrastructure projects. FIAS' advisory services have helped to clarify and determine policy options for subsequent cabinet and parliamentary decisions.

IFC's activities have also included advisory services to the Bank Rehabilitation Agency and advisory support to the Ministry of Finance (in particular, on securities market legislation and pension reform), the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, and two banking institutions.
