IFC in Pacific Islands

IFC Advisory Services for the Pacific integrates PEP Pacific, a multidonor initiative that focuses on micro, small, and medium enterprises, Foreign Investment Advisory Services (FIAS), and Infrastucture Advisory Services, and is working closely with an expanded IFC investment presence to deliver a 'one IFC' service to 11 Pacific Island countries. Our overall strategy is to focus on financial markets, infrastructure, business enabling environment, and key productive sectors.

In Samoa , IFC's advisory work on part-privatizing Polynesian Airlines has resulted in better service quality, increased flight frequency, and lower costs, all of which have had an enormous impact on tourism. In Tonga, IFC assisted with the very successful introduction of commercial dispute mediation, and through a joint program with the Asian Development Bank, is currently helping to reform company law and rebuild the company registry. In Solomon Islands, IFC assisted with the reform of the investment law and the introduction of an electronic company registry, resulting in a large reduction in foreign investment approval times.
