Using Results for Reporting

Reporting for Accountability
Reporting on our development effectiveness is an important aspect of IFC's accountability as a public development institution. In our Disclosure Policy, we have committed to report on IFC’s development effectiveness at least once a year.

External Reporting
The first comprehensive report was IFC's 2007 Annual Report, which integrated traditional fiscal year reporting with IFC’s Sustainability Report, its Report to Donors, and new development effectiveness reporting. IFC’s 2008 and 2009 Annual Reports update the comprehensive information first reported by the 2007 Annual Report and provide updated information on IFC development effectiveness. We are making more extensive information on development effectiveness available on this site.

Tracking development results allows IFC to report on successes and shortcomings, and how we incorporate the lessons we learned from our experiences to strengthen results and address weaknesses in the future. Some of the findings from DOTS are captured in our Monitor Notes.

Reporting to IFC's Board of Directors
IFC regularly reports to the Board of Directors. In the Annual Portfolio Performance Review FY06 IFC discussed initial development results from DOTS for the first time. Going forward, DOTS results have been mainly captured in IFC’s Annual Report, supplemented by information on this site.

Internal Reporting
We regularly report on development results internally at IFC:

  • At the working level, we regularly report on data quality and results to the various industry department champions, who use this information to improve the quality of DOTS entries.
  • We regularly report DOTS results to IFC's senior management.
  • Whenever our senior management travels to IFC country offices and clients, we provide them with DOTS travel briefings that outline country and regional results along with project-specific results.
