About Us – Results Measurement at IFC

IFC’s development results measurement agenda focuses on the Corporation’s key activities: private sector investments and advisory services. We work closely with IFC’s operational departments and center our efforts on a number of activities:

• Refining IFC’s measurement framework and developing industry-specific metrics to monitor development outcome
• Managing development results tracking for new investments and IFC’s active investment portfolio throughout the project cycle
• Enhancing the quality of IFC’s results tracking through quality assurance, regular training events, and support to staff
• Coordinating results measurement for IFC’s investments and advisory services
• Reporting on IFC’s development results to the public, mainly through IFC’s Annual Report and this site
• Providing input for IFC’s strategic directions, corporate incentives at all levels, and operational policies

• Beyond IFC…
  IFC cooperates with other organizations in initiatives that enhance development results measurement for private sector operations. For example, IFC’s Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) is a member of the Evaluation Cooperation Group, an alliance of multilateral banks that has established good practice standards for assessing development results.
• We routinely collaborate with other International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to share experiences in private sector development results measurement, and commissioned a comparative review on this topic in 2007.
• IFC has been asked to take the lead in a joint effort by several Multilateral Development Banks to develop private sector indicators for the Common Performance Assessment System (COMPAS).
• IFC also hosts an annual international conference on results measurement.

  Our work affects all of IFC’s activities, and we collaborate closely with IFC operational departments, IFC’s Independent Evaluation Group (IEG), the Environmental and Social Development Department (including the Gender Entrepreneurship Markets (GEM) Unit), Operational Risk Management, among others.
