The project is involved with the implementation of the CG Improvement Plan for an IFC investment client, and is expected to conduct assessments on several another clients in the coming months. The project has also held a media training for local business journalists. Sub-projects: Africa CG Mapping Study (Phase 1 Underway, Phases 2-4 TBD) Isimkah Ibuakah (coordinator) CCGCP Regional Coordinator: Roman Zyla Local Facility: IFC Advisory Services in Middle East and North Africa Local Program: MENA Corporate Governance Program Local Program Head: Martin Steindl Program Details: During the first trust-fund cycle of IFC Advisory Services in MENA, the IFC CG program achieved the following results: - Number of entities accessing investment/financing: 16 out of 72 - Value of IFC financing supported by advisory services: US$112 million - Value of financing (other than IFC) facilitated by advisory services: US$69 million - Number of entities reporting improved performance (e.g., improvements in productivity, operations, loan terms, valuations): 58 out of 72 In addition, nine institutes of directors or CG institutes were founded, 17 Corporate Governance Codes were launched, and almost 4,000 participants were trained by the program or through its partner institutes. In moving forward, the CG program will continue to improve CG practices of companies with a focus on family-owned businesses and financial sector institutions in resource-poor, labor-abundant countries, with highly selective engagements in countries like Saudi Arabia where significant fees can be generated.
