Study on Energy Efficiency Improvement Potential and Opportunities in China’s Cement Industry Launched

IFC CHUEE program started the study on Energy Efficiency Improvement Potential and Opportunities in China’s Cement Industry in the first half of year 2007. The final report was completed and launched recently.

The study shows that although energy conservation and consumption reduction in cement industry have achieved great impact with distinctive decrease of comprehensive energy consumption per the production of unit of product during the “Tenth Five Year Plan”, yet there is large energy conservation potential in the industry. The Report analyzes relevant energy conservation potential from the aspects of structural adjustments of cement industry, promotion of waste heat recovery power generation (WHRPG), energy conservation refit of grinding system, and implementation of electricity conservation refit of motor system. In line with the requirements of CHUEE program, the study indicates some fields that CHUEE program should give key supports.

Finally, the Report studies the market opportunities and gives implications for CHUEE program to provide financing support, set the principles to be followed during the selection of energy efficiency projects in this industry. The report also identifies the potential supporting objectives, and advises the control of relevant risks. Six energy efficient projects are recommended by the research team for the reference of CHUEE program.

The study was carried out by a joint team composed of Finnish Poyry Energy Consulting Co., Ltd, the Energy Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission and China Cement Association. The research is funded by the Finnish government. Please click here to view full text. For free hard copies, please send your enquiries to chuee@ifc.org, or contact us at +86-10-58603262.
