IFC’s aim is to help develop socially responsible private education and make a difference in people’s lives by:

Supporting investment in education infrastructure and services:
As of June 30, 2009, provided $328 million in financing to 56 private education projects in 25 developing countries. The projects had a total value of $1 billion.

Supporting investment in the poorest countries to spur sustainable growth:
Twenty-five IFC education projects (45 percent) were in IDA (International Development Association) countries, which are considered the world’s poorest developing countries.

Increasing access to education for people of all income levels:
IFC projects educate about 700,000 students annually.

Providing employment opportunities for local education professionals:
IFC-supported education facilities employ about 14,000 people in developing countries.

Sharing best practice:
IFC organizes numerous events and learning opportunities including our biennial International Private Education Conference, which brings our clients together with thought leaders from business, education, and academia. Influencing education policy:
We bring together education professionals and policymakers through numerous international and regional conferences and seminars aimed at exploring public-private collaboration and partnerships.
