The 5th International Symposium for Corporate Governance

The global financial storm sprung from American sub-crime has become the important background for the study of corporate governance. The 5th International Symposium for Corporate Governance, hosted by Business School of Nankai University and the Center for Studies of Corporate Governance of Nankai University, was held from Sep 5 to 6, 2009.

The Center for Studies of Corporate Governance of Nankai University, as the important study base of humanities and social sciences of Ministry of Education, supported by the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Tianjin Government and other institutions, concerned by scholars both at home and abroad as well as all sectors of society, has successfully held four international symposiums for corporate governance. These four consecutive international symposiums held at Nankai University have built a platform for governments, practical sectors, academia, and research community both at home and abroad to know and study corporate governance. The symposiums attracted the participations of notable scholars from different countries in the world, including the Nobel Laureate in Economics, Reinhard Selten, James A. Mirrlees and so on. Also the symposiums have got great support and concern from Professor Cheng Siwei, leaders and scholars from State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC), China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Shanghai Stock Exchange and other related departments.

Head of the Forum, Philip Armstrong also made a speech at the opening of the Symposium regarding China's lessons learned from the current crisis.
