The Global Corporate Governance Forum and the International Finance Corporation, in partnership with the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the National Institute for Securities Market (NISM) convened a Business Investor Dialogue in Mumbai on February 25, 2008. The purpose of the event was to facilitate a dialogue between the private sector, domestic and international investors, and SEBI, which provided the participants with an opportunity to voice their recommendations for improved corporate governance of Indian enterprises. The Dialogue was the first in a series of activities that the IFC and the Forum plan to undertake in cooperation with SEBI and NISM.
Follow-on activities in the coming year, under discussion, include a program to train trainers for board directors’ capacity building and a program, in cooperation with Reuters Foundation, to develop capacities among journalists in reporting on corporate governance issues.
