EU Corporate Governance Standards:

Seminar for EU Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries including lessons learned from New members

Brussels, February 20th, 2008



Seminar on EU Corporate Governance was organized by the Forum, in collaboration with the Slovenian Presidency of the European Union, European Parliament, the European Commission, the IFC, the Partners for Financial Stability program, and the Center for International Private Enterprise. The event will be held at the European Parliament in Brussels on February 20th, 2008. This is a high-level regional meeting on corporate governance directives and best practices for the benefit of EU candidate and potential candidate countries, such as Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey.

The key objectives of the Seminar are to:

  • Help raise awareness on existing EU corporate governance requirements and guidelines;
  • Help candidate and potential candidate countries better access relevant EU information;
  • Help candidate and potential candidate countries participate in current EU debates, such as cross-border voting, executive pay, and corporate governance control mechanisms; and
  • Review lessons learned from the recent new EU members.
