Background / General description:

The Global Financial Markets Department is looking for a Senior/Principal Banking Sector Specialist to work on bank assessments for new investment and advisory projects as well as existing clients. Senior/Principal Banking Sector Specialist work in multiple regions, assess new complex deals and give value-added support to all relevant transaction teams; they provide senior guidance and support in monitoring complex portfolio investments and structure and manage advisory/technical assistance projects.

Duties and Accountabilities:

-Reviewing all aspects of a bank s strategy, organization, operations and risks; -Assessing processes and procedures, including in credit, treasury and risk management, regulatory compliance, internal audit, etc.; -Conducting detailed commercial and retail credit portfolio reviews, determining profitability, expected losses and the appropriateness of loan loss reserves; -Identifying and quantifying risks and weaknesses related to the bank and the proposed investment/advisory project; -Recommending improvements and/or remedial measures and plans of action as may be necessary; -Designing and implementing advisory assignments/technical assistance to banks and other financial institutions (leasing companies, micro-finance institutions), including the selection and supervision of local project staff and consultants. -Pro active involvement on the portfolio projects. Be actively involved in regular portfolio review, stress test and supervision visits.

Selection Criteria:

-Senior banking experience, preferably over 15 years, in a major international bank with significant MENA and/or emerging markets presence; -Familiarity with international best market practices and global trends in the banking sector industry; -Strong knowledge of a bank s inner operations in emerging markets and of diverse banking issues (e.g. credit/treasury, strategy, product development, internal controls, accounting, etc); -Strong analytical skills, experience in financial modeling and ability to assess all aspects of a bank s operations; Knowledge of Islamic Banking principles and products. -Experience in structuring investment and technical assistance/advisory transactions, ability to mitigate risks and enhance returns, and experience in negotiating complex deals; -Familiarity with BIS I and II guidelines and capacity to apply them in emerging markets, knowledge of legal and regulatory issues typical of emerging markets banking systems; -Ability to establish strong credibility among senior clients; -A business mind-set with a ‘can do, roll-up sleeves attitude and the ability to make difficult decisions under pressure; -Experience in due diligence exercises for acquisition of emerging markets banks and interacting with regulators and regular/bank inspectors is an advantage; -Team player with excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of one or several of the following languages is a plus ( Arabic, Urdu/Hindi).
