If IFC does not recruit on my campus, how do I apply for the GTT Program? Is it important for me to secure a summer internship with IFC in order to have a better chance to be accepted into the GTT Program?

IFC does not recruit on all campuses. However, IFC is looking for top talent worldwide, and we encourage all interested students who meet the relevant qualifications to send resumes to mbarecruit@ifc.org from about mid-August through the end of September each year.

A summer internship with IFC does not guarantee entry into the GTT Program. Summer interns who do well are given the opportunity to go directly to the second round of the GTT interview process but face open competition at that time.

Does IFC offer an orientation program for its new hires? What kind of training can I expect at IFC?

IFC offers an orientation program to all new recruits designed to familiarize them with IFC's business, values, and principles. In addition, IFC provides on-going learning opportunities to its staff, both in-house training and on-the-job learning, and offers specific external learning opportunities tailored to the needs of individuals.

How much travel should I expect in a job with IFC?

Staff members are expected to travel between four and twelve weeks a year.

Back to questions

How long does it take from the time I apply for a job to the time I receive my letter of appointment?

It typically takes from three to six months for this process. Following receipt of applications for a job, IFC short-lists candidates. Once the interview process for these short-listed candidates is completed, IFC sends candidates a letter of intent together with some forms. This is followed by security checks and reference checks, concluding with a letter of appointment.

Does IFC provide support for finding schools/employment/other help for me and my family?

After you receive an offer of employment from IFC, and before choosing a place to live, we encourage you to talk to a Work/Life counselor of the World Bank Group. Work Life Services provides on-going resources and referrals in the following work/life areas: schooling, housing, child care, elder care, spouse/partner career, and travel or relocation. You can request information by e-mailing WorkLife@worldbank.org. or calling (202) 473-2245 to schedule an appointment. Additional information about moving to a field office may be obtained through the Global Mobility Center, an on-line -- virtual -- resources center, providing information about available work/life resources in countries where the Bank conducts business.

How do I find housing?

For those relocating to Washington, our housing counselors will provide you with information and guidance on the housing market and neighborhoods in the Washington metropolitan area. They will advise on topics such as renting vs. buying, resources for finding appropriate housing, and review of related housing documents. It's suggested that you give yourself 30 days to search for housing. This amount of time will allow you to become familiar with different areas of the city, talk to Realtors and colleagues, and make an informed decision. Informational sessions on housing search strategies for the metropolitan area are also available. For more information send an e-mail to WorkLife@worldbank.org. or call (202) 473-2245 to schedule an appointment.
