How long does it take to complete the application?
The application can be completed in as little as 15 to 20 minutes. Please refer to the How to Apply guide to see what is required for the application. It is important to note that there is one point when your application may be disconnected due to inactivity. Please be sure to complete the entire application in less than 2 hours.

I am experiencing problems with my application, what could be the problem?
Technical Difficulties:
  • Pop-up Blocker
    • Please turn off all pop-up blockers.
  • Firewall
    • You may not be able to apply due to restrictive firewall settings on your computer/network.
    • Please try your application from multiple internet locations.
  • Internet Browser Version
    • Please update your internet browser to the most recent version.
  • File Attachment
  • Application Timed Out
    • Error messages include:
      • Create/Update Resume 2
      • Invalid default resume template (1116.8000)
    • Solution: Restart your computer and be sure to complete the application within 2 hours.
  • Application page is not available.
    • The application is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

In the unlikely event that the problem persists, contact us through careers@ifc.org and we will support you in submitting your application. Please specify the job number for which you are applying in the subject line and provide us with a detailed description (or a "screen shot") of any error message you experienced. Please do not send your CV or application to this email address as we will not be able to consider such applications.

How can I check my application status?
Please go to the Check Application Status page and click on the Check Your Application Status link under the New System heading.

The selection process follows this order:
  1. Applied - Your application has been received by the system.
  2. Long List - You have been selected for the Long List, the first selection decision has been made.
  3. Short List - You have been selected for the Short List, you will be contacted for further information.
  4. Interview - You will be contacted to schedule an Interview.
Please note the following column in the Check Status screen:
  1. My Status - This status is for your individual application. Your status may be the same as Job Status or it may be at a lower level. Human Resources Personnel may begin evaluating applications before a vacancy is closed, so it is possible that My Status shows that you have been "Not Selected" before the closing date.
The selection process may take about two months, and only candidates invited for interviews will be contacted.

Am I eligible for a position with the World Bank?
You must be a citizen of a member country of the World Bank Group to be eligible for employment. You must be older than 18 years and not older than 60 years at time of application. Please also check these additional Limitations on employment.

At what point on the closing date does the system stop accepting applications?
Vacancy closing dates are based on EST/EDT (Washington, D.C. time). Applications for a vacancy may be submitted until 23:59 (11:59pm) EST/EDT on the vacancy closing date.

How can I change my contact information or email address?
Contact Information:
  1. Please go to the Check Application Status page.
  2. Click on the Check Your Application Status link.
  3. Sign in to the Member Center.
  4. Click on the Advanced Functions link.
  5. Click on the Update Contact Information link.
  6. Make changes to your information and click on the "Submit" button.
Email Address:
  1. Please go to the Check Application Status page.
  2. Click on the sign-in to the Member Center link at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click on the Update Your Account link.
  4. Make changes to your information and click on the "Submit" button.
Please note that your User ID is the same as your email address, so your User ID will change to your updated email address.

Are there any restrictions on the CV that I upload?
  • Do not protect it with any kind of password.
  • Do not include pictures of yourself in your CV.
  • You can only attach one single file; the maximum file size is 150 KB.
  • Only the following types of files are allowed: .pdf, .doc, .rtf, .txt, .html
Please note that you will need to paste or attach your CV for each individual application. Although most information is saved from one application to the next your CV and your cover letter / statement of interest must be added to each application.

How long can my Statement of Interest be?
Your Statement of Interest should be no more than 700 words (approx. 2 pages) long and should include your motivation / reason for applying for the position.

Is it possible to edit my application?
Hiring managers will have access to applications immediately upon submittal. Therefore, once your application has been submitted, you will only be able to alter contact information.

If you decide to withdraw from a position for any reason, please be aware that you can not apply for the same position again.

You will only be asked to send in references if you progress to later stages of the selection process.

Why can't I sign in to the Member Center?
Please be sure that your User ID and password were entered correctly. The letters in the password are case sensitive, so they must be the same as when you requested your password. If this does not work, you can reset your password by following the ‘Forgot/Reset Password’ link below the password field in the Member Center. You will receive a new password in your registered email account. Please be sure to sign in to your account and immediately change the password.

We transitioned to a new application system on September 29, 2006. If you do not have a new account, or are not sure, please sign up for a new account in the Member Center. If you have an existing account, it will not let you set up a second account with the same email address, i.e. with the same User ID.

How do I sign up for or edit the Job Search Agent?
  1. Go to the Check Application Status page
  2. Sign in as if you were going to check your application status. If you do not yet have an account with the Member Center, please click on the "Create Account" link on the left hand side.
  3. Click on the "Advanced Functions" link.
  4. Now you can choose or change the Job Clusters, Location and any keywords for vacancies that you wish to be notified about.
  5. Click "Save" to save your Search Criteria.
  6. Click "Delete" to remove your Job Tracker notifications.
