Tools

IFC Against AIDS has developed some tools from the field of experiences and practices in HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and care to guide companies through every step in the process of designing and implementing a program for their workforce. By extending HIV/AIDS programs to their communities, companies can also play an important role in fighting HIV/AIDS along with "traditional" actors such as public health officials and NGOs.

The process can be ensured through a multi step approach, which is outlined in the following table.

Identifying what resources exist in the wider community, and who is doing what, can save companies both time and money and avoid a duplication of efforts. In addition, since AIDS programs are not the core business of the private sector, companies do not need to feel they have to undertake all the work in-house. Businesses may choose to contract these services out. Small businesses, in particular, may want to join together and pool their resources by hiring an external party to assist in program design and implementation. For these reasons, IFC Against AIDS has found it effective to encourage companies to view potential interventions through Four Spheres of Action: Operational, Medical, Managerial, and Community (Page 6 of Good Practice Note).
