Fruits and Vegetables

Investing in the fruit and vegetables subsector can have significant development impact. Creating new or better opportunities for cash crops, improving crop diversity and income security, generating export opportunities and foreign exchange earnings are just a few examples. What’s more, investments in this subsector create employment opportunities throughout the supply chain, as new skills are developed and new and improved technology is introduced.

As of June 30, 2008, IFC's portfolio in this sector was $132 million or 6% of IFC's total agribusiness portfolio.
