Investments in dairy products can have significant development impact. IFC recognizes this subsector as key to improving nutrition. Investing in dairy projects can:
- Reduce the incidence of milk borne illnesses
- Improve farm practices and animal health, reducing costs, increasing yields and improving quality
- Secure farm incomes
- Increase the availability and variety of safe high quality milk products
As of March 31, 2008, IFC's portfolio in the dairy sector was $95 million or 4% of IFC's total agribusiness portfolio.
