Investments in dairy products can have significant development impact. IFC recognizes this subsector as key to improving nutrition. Investing in dairy projects can:

• Reduce the incidence of milk borne illnesses
• Improve farm practices and animal health, reducing costs, increasing yields and improving quality
• Secure farm incomes
• Increase the availability and variety of safe high quality milk products
  

As of June 30, 2011, IFC's portfolio in the dairy sector was $85 million or 3% of IFC's total agribusiness portfolio.
