On October 1, 1984 Sir William Ryrie became the Executive Vice President of IFC. Prior to that, Sir William held various positions in the United Kingdom and abroad. He was the Permanent Secretary of the British Overseas Development Administration, the Economic Minister and the UK Executive Director of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, and the Second Permanent Secretary (Domestic Economy) of the UK Treasury.
Sir William was educated at the Mount Hermon School in Darjeeling, Heriot's School in Edinburgh, and the University of Edinburgh.
